In recent months you will have noticed that efforts have been made to encourage drivers to take care when parking at the beginning and end of the school day. Despite some positive changes to parking as a result of messages in the weekly newsletters, there are still concerns over the risks to the safety of our children outside the school grounds.
Children use a variety of methods when travelling to school including walking, cycling and travelling by bus as well as by car. We would like to draw everyone’s attention to the potential dangers to our children at both ends of the school day due to the number of vehicles on the road and occasionally thoughtless parking.
We recognise that we all have a responsibility in keeping our children safe and request that every family signs the Good Parking agreement below each year which will demonstrate an ongoing commitment towards safe and responsible parking in and around the village. This agreement covers both the safety of all road users when parking and the proper supervision of all children outside school.
We appreciate that the beginning and end of the school day can be quite a stressful and busy time particularly if parents are running late but the safety of our young children is of paramount importance. As such there is no justifiable reason that the yellow zig zag lines or beyond the pavement outside Manor Barn should be used for parking, even for a short period, since both areas compromise visibility for both pedestrians and other car users. There are other equally risky places including Church Lane, the junctions of Badswell Lane and Southby Close, and parking on pavements so would like to remind you that rules of the Highway Code apply.
There is parking further up Eaton Road and The Plough continues to kindly offer the use of its parking facilities to alleviate pressure on the roads outside school and contribute to the safety of our children. The Police Community Support Officers will be in the village regularly issuing tickets to repeat offenders.
We hope you will support us in taking this matter as seriously as we do and will ensure safe and considerate parking.

Dear Parents and Villagers
We would like to help make our village a safer place, especially at the beginning and end of the school day.
Please could you help us by following these guidelines as proposed on the map and those listed below:
• The dangerous places to park are in RED.
• Safer alternatives are in GREEN.
• Make maximum use of The Plough car park for school runs.
• Park sideways outside the shop to make more use of the space.
• Use the long straight stretch of road past the Old Thatched Tavern towards Eaton where it is safe to park.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the parish council at parishclerk.appletonwitheaton@gmail.com
Thank you.
